Etymology

Borrowed from French douceur (“sweetness”), from Old French dolçor, dulcur, and so on, from Latin dulcōr + -em, from dulcis (“sweet”). It was naturalised in Middle English as douceoure, dousour, but from the 17th century onward was treated as a French loanword. It is a doublet of dulcour.
