Is a JPG different from a JPEG?
No. The two extensions name exactly the same image format, and software treats them interchangeably. The three-letter form exists only because early Windows filenames allowed at most three characters after the dot.
Should a file be renamed from .jpeg to .jpg?
There is no need — both extensions work in browsers, phones and image software. A small number of older or stricter systems accept only one spelling, and renaming the file in that case changes nothing about the image itself.
