Borrowed from French apologue, from Latin apologus, from Ancient Greek ἀπόλογος (apólogos, 'story, tale, fable'), from ἀπό- (apó-, 'off, away from') plus λόγος (lógos, 'speech'). It is equivalent to apo- plus -logue.
