Comes from Russian Дми́трий (Dmítrij), which traces back to Byzantine Greek Δημήτριος (Dēmḗtrios), from Δημήτηρ (Dēmḗtēr, "Demeter") plus -ιος (-ios, "pertaining to"). It is a doublet of Demetrius, Dimitri and Dimitris.
