Etymology

Came from Middle English ecclesyastyke, which developed from Late Latin ecclēsiasticus ("of the church"), from Ancient Greek ἐκκλησιαστικός (ekklēsiastikós). On the surface it analyses as ecclesiast plus -ic, and it is a doublet of Ecclesiasticus.
