Etymology

A learned borrowing from Latin ērūctātiōnem, the accusative of ērūctātiō, meaning "a belching forth, burp", which came from ērūctāre ("to belch, burp"). Compare Middle English eructuacioun ("belching, burp"), borrowed from the same root.
