Etymology
Borrowed from French Eugène, from Latin Eugenius, from Ancient Greek Εὐγένιος (Eugénios, “well born”), formed from εὖ (eû, “good, well”) and -γενής (-genḗs, “born a certain way”). It parallels eugenics, and is a doublet of Yevgeny, Eugenius, and Owen.
