Formed from fetus plus -cide, or fetus plus -icide; the suffix comes from Middle French -cide, from Latin -cīda (“cutter, killer”) and its derivative -cīdium (“killing”), from -cīd (the combining form of caedō (“cut, kill”)) plus -a (“-er”, forming agent nouns).
