Comes from Irish Flaithbheartach, Flaithbheartaigh ("bright ruler"), formed from flaith ("prince, ruler") and Proto-Celtic *berxtos ("bright, shining"), which is cognate with Proto-Germanic *berhtaz ("bright, shining").
