Etymology

Comes from French gastronomie, from Ancient Greek γαστρονομία (gastronomía), from γαστήρ (gastḗr, “stomach”) and νόμος (nómos, “knowledge, law”); on the surface, it can be analysed as gastro- (“cooking”) plus -nomy (“a system of rules or laws about a particular field”).
