Etymology

Two strands feed this word. One traces it to the Ancient Greek Γολγοθᾶ (Golgothâ), itself from the Aramaic גּוּלְגּוּלְתָּא (gulgultā). The other, for the sense "rooms of the heads of the colleges; a hat", is a pun on "the place of the skulls/heads".
