gurgle

Etymology

A back-formation from Middle English gurguling (“a rumbling in the belly”). It is related to Middle Dutch gorgelen (“to gurgle”), Middle Low German gorgelen (“to gurgle”) and German gurgeln (“to gargle”), and perhaps to Latin gurguliō (“throat”).
