headland
The origin and history of headland.
Etymology
Traces back through Middle English hedelond and hedelonde to Old English hēafodland and hafudland ("boundary, headland"), equivalent to head and land. It displaced the non-native Middle English chevicir ("headland"), which had been borrowed from Old French chevecier ("head piece").
