Etymology
An anglicised form of Spanish Inés and Portuguese Inês, both going back to Latin Agnes, from Ancient Greek Ἁγνή (Hagnḗ). It was first used in 18th-century English poetry and plays in reference to Inês de Castro, and is a doublet of Agnes.
