Etymology
A spelling pronunciation of Scots MacKenȝie, arising when the letter ⟨ȝ⟩ was mistaken for ⟨z⟩. It ultimately comes from Scottish Gaelic MacCoinnich, formed from mac (“son, descendant”) and Coinnich (“of Coinneach”).
