megrim
The origin and history of megrim.
Etymology
Borrowed from Middle French migraigne, a semi-learned borrowing from Late Latin hēmicrānia (“pain in one half of the head”), from Ancient Greek ἡμικρᾱνίᾰ (hēmikrāníă), formed from ἡμι- (hēmi-, “hemi-, half”) and κρανίον (kraníon, “skull”) (which also gave English cranium). It is a doublet of migraine and hemicrania.
