From Yiddish משוגע (meshuge, “crazy”), from Hebrew מְשׁוּגָּע (m'shugá, “crazy”), a form of שׁוּגַּע (shugá, “be driven mad”) and שִׁיגַּע (shigá, “drive mad”). First came into use in English around 1880.
