Comes from Ancient Greek μισανθρωπία (misanthrōpía), from μισάνθρωπος (misánthrōpos), itself from μῖσος (mîsos, “hatred”) and ἄνθρωπος (ánthrōpos, “human”). The word can also be analysed as miso- + -anthropy.
