Etymology

Came into English via Middle English overful, overfulle, from Old English oferfull (“overfull”), from Proto-West Germanic [Term?], and ultimately from Proto-Germanic *uberfullaz; equivalent to over- plus full. It is cognate with German übervoll (“overfull”) and Swedish överfull (“overfull”).
