Etymology
This came into English as Middle English rejoynen, derived partly from Middle French rejoin- (the stem of rejoindre, itself from re- (“again”) plus joindre (“to join”)), and partly from re- plus joynen. On the surface, it analyses as re- + join. It is a doublet of rejoinder.
