Etymology

It comes from French ruana and, before that, Spanish ruana ("woolen fabric or garment"), whose own origin is disputed. Suggestions include Latin rūga ("wrinkle"), Quechua ruana ("textile"), and Chibcha ruana ("land of blankets"); see Wikipedia.
