zaddy

The origin and history of zaddy.

Etymology

The slang word zaddy is an assibilation of daddy, though its exact origin is unclear. Urban Dictionary carries numerous, mostly similar user definitions, the earliest dated 17 June 2008 and posted by a user named Josette: "The slang term for a really "handsome" guy who is very appealing and looks really fashionable. He has to have swag and sex appeal and look sexy and attractive" — this remains the most common sense. Other published uses only become more frequent from around 2018, perhaps influenced by American rapper Ty Dolla Sign's 2016 song of the same name.
