What does alt mean?
A player's secondary account, separate from their main. People run alts to mess about off-rank, play with lower-skilled friends, or — less charmingly — to smurf on beginners.
"That 'new' player feeding bot lane is obviously a Challenger on an alt."
Origin
Short for 'alternate' account or character. Old MMO term that spread everywhere.

Is an alt the same as a smurf?
Related but not identical. An alt is just any secondary account; a smurf is specifically a strong player using a low-rank alt to stomp weaker opponents.
