General
bear bait
What does bear bait mean?
A car (almost always a "four-wheeler") flying past you well over the limit. Truckers treat them as a gift: any cop in the area locks onto the faster, easier target and lets the rig roll on by.
"Red Mustang just blew by me doing a hundred — that's some prime bear bait right there."
Origin
Bear = cop, bait = the dumb car blowing past you at 95. If a trooper's lurking, the four-wheeler is the one getting eaten, not the truck. Truckers love bear bait — it's a free pass.
