bounceback
What does bounceback mean?
ED slang for a patient who gets discharged and then reappears within 72 hours with the same complaint. Sometimes it's the patient not coping at home, sometimes it's a missed diagnosis the first time round, which is why bouncebacks get audited.
"Bed three's a bounceback from Tuesday's chest pain, and this time the troponin's up."
