What does crow mean?
The eagle on a Navy petty officer's rank insignia. When a sailor makes E-4 and pins on PO3, they've 'got their crow' or 'made crow.' Lose your rate at captain's mast and you 'lost your crow.' The bird is the whole identity of being a petty officer.

Origin
US Navy. The petty officer rank badge features an eagle perched above the chevrons — sailors have called it a 'crow' for over a century because, frankly, it's small and black and doesn't look much like an eagle on a sleeve.
