What does elo mean?
Your skill rating. The hidden (or not-so-hidden) number that decides who you get matched against. Climb it by winning, tank it by losing.

Origin
Named after Arpad Elo, the physicist who designed the rating system for chess. Games borrowed it for matchmaking, and the name stuck even when the actual maths underneath changed.
