plinking

What does plinking mean?

A 1-frame-link trick: you press the attack button, then a lower-priority button one frame later, and the game registers two attempts in two frames. That effectively doubles your window to hit a tight link, turning a brutal 1-frame combo into something humanly consistent.

"Her combo needs a 1-frame link, so she plinks it to actually land it under pressure."

Origin

Street Fighter IV community, where game director Seth Killian popularised the term. Short for 'priority linking'.

Frequently asked questions

What is plinking in fighting games?
Plinking, or priority linking, is pressing two buttons a frame apart to widen your link timing, making tight combo links easier to land. It's used as a noun and a verb.
How do you use plinking in a sentence?
"Try plinking that heavy off the medium so you don't drop the link."
Why do players use plinking?
It gives the game two chances to register the input across consecutive frames, so a difficult one-frame link becomes much more consistent.
