What does tip tops mean?
A cheap ice lolly that's basically frozen squash sealed in a long plastic tube. You bite or scissor the top off and suck the colour out until your tongue's neon. Birmingham summer holidays in one item.
"Mom gave us a quid for the outdoor and we came back with four tip tops and a Push Pop."
Origin
Brand-name-turned-generic in Birmingham; by the 80s/90s any frozen cordial tube from the local outdoor was a 'tip top'. Ask for one outside the West Midlands and you'll get a blank stare.

Are tip tops the same as ice pops?
Same product, different name. Down south they're 'ice pops' or 'Mr Freeze'. In Brum they've always been tip tops.
