Make-up. The whole face — foundation, mascara, the lot. Used by older Manc women without irony, by younger ones with a wink.

Origin
From an old word for finely powdered zinc oxide — a polishing powder used cosmetically. The cosmetic sense outlived the chemistry lesson.
