General
where you to
What does where you to mean?
South Wales grammar at full volume. 'Where' picks up a 'to' on the end — so 'where are you?' becomes 'where you to?' and 'where's your mam?' becomes 'where to is your mam?'. Drops the 'are' entirely. Pure Wenglish, also shared with the West Country across the bridge.
"Oi, where you to? I've been waiting outside Greggs for ten minutes."
Origin
Welsh-English construction influenced by Welsh-language syntax. Also found across the Severn in Bristol and the West Country.
