wiitwd (what it is that we do)

What does wiitwd (what it is that we do) mean?

The scene's own polite umbrella for all of it. 'BDSM' only covers a slice, bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadomasochism, and plenty of people in the community don't slot into those letters. Someone solely into, say, infantilism or cross-dressing isn't doing 'BDSM' but is absolutely doing WIITWD. Deliberately vague, deliberately inclusive, and a bit of an in-joke.

"Don't call it BDSM around her; she just says WIITWD because the acronym never quite fits."

Origin

Grew out of Usenet newsgroups, where people pointed out that 'BDSM' described only a fraction of the alternative-sexuality community. WIITWD became the broader, label-dodging umbrella.
