Etymology

Borrowed from Hindustani तंदूर (tandūr), also written تندور (tandūr), which came from Classical Persian تنور (tannūr), from Middle Persian tnwl (/tanūr/), meaning “oven”, ultimately from Akkadian tinūru — all of these meaning “(clay) oven” (compare also Avestan tanūra). It is a doublet of athanor.
