adynaton
Adynaton (noun) means a type of exaggeration so extreme that it describes something impossible.
Etymology
Borrowed from Late Latin adynaton (“impossibility; adynaton”), or taken directly from its source Ancient Greek ἀδύνατον (adúnaton, “an impossibility; impracticality”), the substantivized neuter singular of ἀδύνατος (adúnatos, “unable; that cannot be done, impossible”) plus -ον (-on, noun-forming suffix). The word ἀδύνατος derives from ἀ- (a-, the alpha privative, a prefix giving a sense opposite to the word or stem it attaches to) plus δῠνᾰτός (dŭnătós, “mighty, strong; possible, practical”), which came from δῠ́νᾰμαι (dŭ́nămai, “to be able, capable; it can be, it is possible”), itself from Proto-Indo-European *dewh₂- (“to fit”), plus -τος (-tos, suffix forming verbal adjectives of possibility).
