Etymology
Hadith comes from the Arabic word حَدِيث (ḥadīṯ), which could mean recent events, a story, discourse, or a hadith itself. That Arabic noun in turn comes from the verb حَدَّثَ (ḥaddaṯa), meaning to tell, relate or report.
