Etymology

Moghul was borrowed from Iranian Persian مغول (moġul), which gives the spellings moghul and mogul, or from Classical Persian مغول (muġūl, muġōl) and Urdu مغل (muġal), which give the other spellings. These are an Arabic and Persian corruption of Mongol, ultimately from Middle Mongol ᠮᠣᠩᠭᠣᠯ (mongɣol). See also Mughal.
