Etymology

Comes from Latin Aetna, perhaps by way of Italian Etna. This traces to either Ancient Greek Αἴτνη (Aítnē, “Aetna”) or αἴθω (aíthō, “to burn”), or to a Sicanian-dialect Italic base *aið-na (“fiery one”) — all ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eydʰ- (“burn; fire”). It's a doublet of Aetna.
