Etymology

Borrowed from Latin fascia (“a band, bandage, swathe”), it is related to fascēs (“bundle of rods containing an axe with the blade projecting”), which goes back to Proto-Indo-European *bʰask- (“bundle, band”). It is cognate with fajita, fess, and fascism.
