Etymology

The verb's origin is uncertain; it may be dialectal (Suffolk), formed from flabby or flap ("to strike") and aghast. It might also be related to Scottish flabrigast ("to boast") or flabrigastit ("worn out with exertion"). The noun comes from the verb.
