iconoclast
The origin and history of iconoclast.
Etymology
Iconoclast was borrowed into English from French iconoclaste, which itself came from Medieval Latin īconoclastēs. That term goes back to Medieval Greek, where it literally meant image breaker, built from roots meaning icon and breaking.
