Comes from Latin incūriōsus (“careless”), made up of in- (“un-”) and cūriōsus (“careful”). Attested since the 1560s, it originally meant ‘heedless and negligent’; the sense ‘uninquisitive’ dates from the 1610s, and the sense ‘unworthy of attention’ from 1747.
