kaffir

Etymology

Ultimately from Arabic كَفَّار (kaffār, "infidel") or كَافِر (kāfir, "unbeliever"), both from كَفَرَ (kafara, "to cover, to hide"); in some, especially early, uses it came via Spanish cafre, Dutch kaffer, or other European languages. It is a doublet of kafir.
