Etymology

Came into English via French pastiche, which traces back to Italian pasticcio, meaning "pie, something blended". That in turn came from Vulgar Latin *pastīcius, from Late Latin pasta, meaning "dough, pastry cake, paste", from Ancient Greek παστά (pastá), meaning "barley porridge", from παστός (pastós), meaning "sprinkled with salt". A doublet of pasticcio.
