What does crit mean?
A critical strike. A randomised chance for an attack or spell to deal bonus damage, usually double. Building 'crit chance' and 'crit damage' is half of theorycrafting.

Shortening of 'critical hit', a mechanic dating back to tabletop RPGs and carried into video game combat systems.
