mot

What does mot mean?

Your girlfriend. Specifically Dublin slang — outside the Pale you're in 'young one' or 'bird' territory. 'The mot' = the missus.

"I'm bringing the mot down to Galway for the weekend."

Origin

Disputed. Possibly from the Irish 'maith' (good, as in 'cailín maith'), possibly from old British cant 'mort' meaning woman. Either way it's pure Dublin.
