pop, dip and spin
What does pop, dip and spin mean?
Before anyone said 'voguing', the category was Pop, Dip and Spin — a literal description of what you did. Pop your arms to the beat, fall into dips to punctuate the line, use spins to carry you between standing and floor work. This is the acrobatic spine of what's now called Old Way: clean, geometric, moving seamlessly up and down. 'Spin' on its own is the same heritage — the spinning, dipping foundation the whole dance grew out of.
Origin
The early descriptive name for what became known as voguing / Old Way in the NYC ballroom scene.
