ratio bait

What does ratio bait mean?

A tweet posted to provoke a tidal wave of angry quote-tweets and replies, usually a deliberately stupid or inflammatory take. The poster either wants the engagement, the clout, or both — getting ratioed is the goal, not the failure.

"'Cereal before milk is a war crime' — pure ratio bait, he knew exactly what he was doing."

Origin

Grew out of the Twitter 'ratio' concept (more replies than likes = bad tweet). By the late 2010s users clocked that controversy farms engagement, and 'ratio bait' named the deliberate version.
