What does teuchter mean?
Lowland Scots term for a Highlander, particularly a Gaelic speaker — but it's stretched to cover any Scot from a rural, sheep-adjacent postcode. Mildly contemptuous on paper, mostly affectionate in practice. Pronounced 'CHOOCH-ter' with that proper Scots gutteral. Gained currency around 1910 and has stuck.
