Etymology

This word comes from Medieval Latin Sinicus, formed from Sina (“China”) and -icus (“-ic”). Sina in turn goes back to Late Latin Sinae (“the Southern Chinese; Southern China”), from Ancient Greek Σῖναι (Sînai). It is equivalent to Sino- plus -ic.
