What is the difference between molarity and molality?
Molarity is moles of solute per litre of solution, while molality is moles of solute per kilogram of solvent. Molality does not change with temperature, because mass does not expand, which is why it is preferred in work involving heating and cooling.
How do you calculate molarity?
Divide the number of moles of solute by the volume of the solution in litres. So 0.5 moles in 0.25 litres gives a molarity of 2 M.
